Fishing and Hunting Report

Fishing in our beautiful area is a staple for the people that live here. This winter, come visit us and see why in the Crosby area, the fishing is fine! Don't try to squeeze it in all in one day though, as our over 400 lakes within 20 minutes drive just might be an overload of fishing fun!

Some fun fishing facts about our area:

* The dozens of pit lakes with their crystal clear waters that dot our landscape are actually the result of mining ore from the surrounding area, and are now some of the finest trout, trophy pike and panfish fisheries in the state!

* The mine pits are very deep, with most exceeding 100 feet and several over 400 feet deep!

* Beyond the pit lakes, the Mississippi and Pine Rivers are here, as well as hundreds of natural lakes. Our area is one of the most water-concentrated areas of the state!

1/3/2010 - Happy New Year!!! Although we had some slush with all the Christmas snow, the cold temps and building ice have opened up plenty of opportunities around the area for lake travel and good fishing once again. Pelican has offered some plowed roads and 15" of ice for vehicle travel but some areas off road are still behind so check as you go. Even Serpent and Rabbit have had a fair amount of vehicle traffic the last few days and reports from these 3 lakes for walleyes have been pretty good. Pelican is kicking out lots of fish, some sorting needed throughout the day with a primetime bite in the evening in 28 FOW while Serpent and Rabbit are mostly an evening bite in around the same depth or a bit shallower. Some crappie action can be had in the area on Little Rabbit, Milford, Black Hoof, Manhomen, Nokay, Clearwater, Perry and Upper Dean with most offering somewhat of a daytime bite and all of them offering an evening spurt as it gets toward low-light. Pike can be caught mixed in with the walleyes on the 3 previously mentioned lakes or for some steady tipup action try East Rabbit, Bay or Lower Mission along the weeds. Bluegill action can be found on Milford, Manhomen, Bass, Perry and Black Bear with the crappies or fishing the pockets of weeds in 7-10 FOW.
