Fishing and Hunting Report

Fishing in our beautiful area is a staple for the people that live here. This winter, come visit us and see why in the Crosby area, the fishing is fine! Don't try to squeeze it in all in one day though, as our over 400 lakes within 20 minutes drive just might be an overload of fishing fun!

Some fun fishing facts about our area:

* The dozens of pit lakes with their crystal clear waters that dot our landscape are actually the result of mining ore from the surrounding area, and are now some of the finest trout, trophy pike and panfish fisheries in the state!

* The mine pits are very deep, with most exceeding 100 feet and several over 400 feet deep!

* Beyond the pit lakes, the Mississippi and Pine Rivers are here, as well as hundreds of natural lakes. Our area is one of the most water-concentrated areas of the state!

6/25/2009- The recent warm weather has the fish going again! Smallmouth have been slammin' on the rocks on Clearwater and Serpent as well as in the holes on the Pine and Mississippi Rivers. Largemouth bass are picking up plastics fished along the weed edges and spinnerbaits worked over the weeds on Rabbit, Serpent, Upper/Lower Mission and Horseshoe lakes. For pike, try trolling big crankbaits in 16-20 FOW on East Rabbit. Walleyes have just been so-so, but your best bet for a good bite would be on Pelican the last 2 hours of daylight fishing Lindy Rigs and crawlers in 24-28 FOW. Trout have been most active in the early morning down around 20' over 80-120 FOW, try jigging with panfish setups tipped with a chunk of nightcrawler or a couple wax worms.

Some musky sightings on Cedar, warmer temps should have them going in the next week or two.
